An apprenticeship or traineeship is a training contract between an employer and an employee in which the apprentice or trainee learns the skills needed for a particular occupation or trade.

An apprenticeship or traineeship can be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis and can be used as a valuable stepping stone to start a career in the construction industry.

What is the difference between an apprenticeship and a traineeship?

A full-time Australian Apprenticeship (commonly referred to as a ‘Trade’) will usually take three to four years to complete, while a full-time traineeship will usually take between one to three years and generally covers all other non-trade related qualifications. Part-time and Australian School-based Apprenticeships and traineeships normally take twice as long to complete as their full-time equivalent.

The good news is that apprenticeships and traineeships are now competency based, which means you can track where you are up to in your training at anytime.
