What do Mechanical Services Plumbers do?

  • You will be responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of building mechanical services plant and equipment used for heating, cooling and ventilating of commercial buildings, hospitals, operating theatres, movie theatres, stadiums, factories and defence force facilities.
  • Work in a team.
  • Work on the iconic buildings of Australia.

Mechanical Service Plumbers perform a range of tasks including:

  • Plan reading and inspection of structures to assess materials needed to perform the work;
  • Set and connect hot and cold water, water treatment, air conditioning equipment, valves and regulators for large chilled water plant, cooling towers, gas distribution and gas appliance installs;
  • Welding and braising; and
  • System testing and commissioning.

How do I become a Mechanical Services Plumber?

  • Become indentured in a Mechanical Services Plumbing Apprenticeship – The qualification is Plumbing Certificate III (Mechanical Services).
  • Individuals qualified to Certificate III Level are eligible to apply for a Plumbers provisional license with a mechanical service registration (currently pending in Queensland).
